5 End of Year Etsy Shop Update

Happy Sunday!

I just wanted to pop in quick with an Etsy shop update...

First, thank you all so very much for all of your support in 2011!  It was a great year for the shop and I have so much gratitude for each order that has come in!

That said, as much as I totally adore working on custom printables {it's honestly one of my favorite things to do!}, I am finding that they are also by far the most time consuming to process.  This next couple of weeks my planner is bursting at the seams with children's Christmas programs, dental and doctor appointments and family holiday activities, which means I won't have the capacity to take on any additional custom orders through the remainder of the holiday season {early 2012}.  Along with this, I will not be accepting Style Tile or custom label orders.  If you and I already have been in conversation/works on a custom order, those will still be wrapped up, however, no new requests can be taken.

But guess what?!  I have BIG plans for the shop in 2012!  So many ideas and updates and new additions that I am beyond excited about!  I. CAN'T. WAIT!

Because 2012 will bring a new Household Binder design, I am also putting the current Household Binder Printable Kit on clearance for 30% off through the end of the year!

No coupon code necessary, the price has been updated in the shop!  Wahoo!

Thank you all for all of your support this year!  Endless hugs to you all!

End of Year discount is for new orders only and cannot be applied to previous purchase.

63 Basement Progress: Laundry Land Linen Cabinet

Our laundry room is massive and packs a lot of storage punch!

We are grateful and know how fortunate we are for this, as typical laundry lands are the size of a small closet.

Of course, I love that I am able to use the space to hold all sorts of home maintenance items, like lower level cleaning supplies, painting products, overflow of bulk household item purchases, light bulbs and vacuum attachments.  And now, it's also the home for our lower level linen cabinet.

Our basement was never finished with a linen closet.  There really wasn't a great place to put one in when we originally finished the lower level, so the first time around we just stashed our extra bedding and bathroom linens in our master bedroom closet.  Now that we have remodeled and opened up the previous walk-in closet into a full dressing room, we lost the linen storage.  We did, however, address the need for a linen cabinet when making tweaks to the laundry room throughout the reno process.  The treadmill moved from the laundry room to the dressing room, and the toy/game cabinet from our old playroom, moved into the laundry room.

Still with me?  Confusing, I know.  Just making what we have work for us.

Now that the basement reno is nearly complete, and we just relocated ourselves and our master bedroom back downstairs, we really needed to evaluate how we were using the cabinet for our extra bedding essentials.

I started out by adding some doors to the front of the cabinet {which is all part of the EFFECTIV line at IKEA}, just to conceal things a bit, since there was already so much open storage in the room.  Plus, I don't really look forward to sleeping on dusty sheets....

The top of the cabinet holds some extra coverlets and puppy bath towels.

The next portion of the cabinet holds our bed sheets, pet supplies, extra cleaning rags, blankets, shower curtains, pillow shams and other household linens.

To fold our bedsheets {which is typically a nightmare}, I turned to my BFF, Martha Stewart, to show me the way.  Once the sheets were folded, I just tucked them into their matching pillow case to keep everything corralled and together.  Now, when we need to change our bedding, I can just grab the entire set and not have to dig for matching pieces!

For the rag and pet supply bins, I just printed out some simple labels on cardstock and clipped them to the bins with cheapo clothes pins that I Mod Podged with scrapbook paper.

The two baskets on the lower shelf is where the random/miscellaneous household linens are folded and contained.

The bottom cabinet holds our extra duvet inserts, since we tend to switch them out based on the current season.

We contain our upper level linens a little differently.  Since we use our technical teeny tiny linen closet to hold our medications and vacuum cleaner, we just use a chest of drawers in the guest room to house all of the upstairs bedding in a very similar manner to here.

My biggest linen closet tip is to only keep 2-3 sets of sheets max, per bed.  That way, if you are washing one set, you can keep the other set on the bed.  We have the same philosophy for towels.  We keep all towels in cabinets right in the bathroom, and each person has two sets of towels, so when one set is being laundered, the other is out on a hook.  This really cuts down on the amount of storage we need for all of our linens in our home, and keeps our cabinets and drawers streamlined.

Now that I am writing up this post and looking at the pictures, I am really wanting to dress up the front of that linen cabinet.  So much so that it just went on the ol' home project list!  Wahoo!

So how do your show your linens some love?  In the laundry room?  A linen closet?  A cabinet?  What other linen closet organizing tips and tricks do you have?

34 Letter to Santa, a Freebie and a Surprise Link Party!

The holiday countdown project that we began this year has been SO much fun for our family.  It really makes me wish we would have started this tradition years ago, but even more grateful that we will be creating blessed memories each year going forward.

So far we have made delicious hot cocoa, read holiday stories, built a snowman, watched a holiday movie with popcorn and had family game night.  On top of my husband traveling for work and life being as crazy busy as always, we are still making sure we squeeze in all of our activities.  I really adore that it is helping us slow down and appreciate really special moments with one another.

But enough mushy mush.

Today we get to write a letter to Santa!  A tradition we do every year, but this year, I made a printable!  YAY!

{click here to download your FREE letter to Santa printable}

I am going to be spending time with the kids on their letters today.  When we are done, I will scan them in to share what interesting things they come up with, so stay tuned {you can check out how the kid's letters turned out over on our family blog here - also linked up below}!

I also thought it would be fun for everyone to link up their little ones letters to Santa.  I know I said no holiday linky parties, this was totally a spur of the moment thing because I just couldn't resist this one.  Something about the sweet and innocent thoughts of a kid during the holidays...  gets me every time!

And a button for you:

I gotta know, what's the funniest thing your little one has wished for or mentioned while composing their letter to Santa?

32 Reader Space: Jenn's Pretty and Practical Pantry

One of my very long time dedicated readers, Jenn from Peas & Crayons, recently moved into a lovely new home.  And with that lovely new home came a very lovely kitchen.

And with that very lovely kitchen came a pantry.

I love that she looked at this amazing pantry and decided that she wanted it to be better.  Oh, and let's just say that this girl can cook.  I mean REALLY cook, it is her passion!

So an organized pantry is a really great thing for this girl.  I am just sayin'... someone that loves to cook should love her pantry!

She really wanted some pretty glass jars for her pasta, grains, nuts and seeds, but those jars typically come at a hefty price tag.  Then, she realized that she was already paying a hefty price for some pretty bottles that she was drinking tea from.

She smartly decided that they would be the perfect solution to her pantry jar dilemma.  So now she had the jars, but she also wanted a way to label the contents.  Enter these stickers found at most craft stores:

Oh my goodness who would have thought that pretty tea jars and stickers would be such a perfect match made in heaven?

Q for Quinoa, P for Panko, and so on.

The opening of the bottles were wide enough to be filled with nearly anything!  Quinoa, Chia Seeds, Pasta, Oats, Millet, Salt, Sugar, Panko, Corn Meal, etc...

"Some of these came from bulk bins, and others were liberated from their bulky cardboard boxes.  It looks 100x better with them all in the same container, and the labels help tired chefs avoid mishaps.  Plus they're super cute and unified with their snazzy new labels.  "

Her next step was to take some plastic storage drawers that she has had for years, and use them to corral all of those random items that really needed a place to call home!

Then she played with stickers some more!  See how much fun organizing can be?

Dollar plastic shoe bins were the perfect solution for corralling all of her spices and canned goods!

Leaving her with a pretty and practical place to store her passion!

But she didn't stop there.  You see, organizing is addicting!

Take a peek at her drawers!  {That really didn't sound right, but we are a PG blog so you know where I am going with this, it's OK to keep reading}

For someone who LOVES to cook, she really has wonderfully condensed drawers!  So proud of my blog friend!
  • She used items she already had to create an organized haven.  Wins every single time.
  • She streamlined her pantry by moving to glass jars for storage.  This is a win because they take up so much less room than bulky boxes and packaging!
  • She created adorable monogram labels from simple stickers.  Such a fresh and fun look!
  • Spices and cans don't always sit right on those slotted shelves and can be hard to reach when stacked in front of one another, but corralling like items into clear inexpensive storage bins not only looks fantastic, but allows her to pull down the bin to grab exactly what she is looking for.
  • Kitchen gadgets can take over any kitchen, especially when cooking is your passion and you are preparing endless varieties of foods, but she is keeping it streamlined, organized and clutter free!  So inspiring!

Seriously, what's not to adore about Jenn's incredible organizing project?  What's your favorite way to pretty up your pantry?

ATTENTION!!  Want to be featured in a Reader Space edition?  Have an awesome organizing story to share?  I am looking for projects that have made a positive impact to your life.  Please send your story and photos to iheartorganizing@gmail.com and I would heart to feature them right here, on the blog!!  Photos should be high resolution and unedited.  Please include a description of the project, including any costs, inspiration, and how it has changed your life and routine for the better!  Oh, and no worries my friends, we will NEVER judge "before" pictures because that just wouldn't be nice!  Only love goes on at this blog!  More info HERE.

7 Guest Post: Centsational Holiday Organizing Tips and Tricks!

Today I am guest posting over at one of my absolute favorite blogs, Centsational Girl!

Take a second to pop over and check out my favorite holiday organizing tips and to snag a free printable!

47 Super Inexpensive & Simple DIY Storage Solutions

Lets face it.  Storage can get expensive!!

If you let it.

I get asked all the time about "budget" storage and organizing.

So I thought I would browse the wonderful web for some of my favorite ways folks have thought outside of the box to create or dress up inexpensive storage containers, and all can be done on the CHEAP!

Be ready to get out that decorative paper and pair it with some everyday household items to create some magical storage solutions!

{source}

Do you know what these incredibly adorable containers were once upon a time?  Cleansing wipes.  And now those containers are covered in pretty paper and function as shopping bag dispensers of all things!  Purely genius!

{source}

Once a shoe box, now AMAZING and pretty ribbon storage!  Love.

{source}

Another ribbon box, however, this one was decorated and then a power strip was popped inside to hide all of those pesky charging cords!

{source}

{source}
More examples of why I adore covering simple tin cans with decorative paper.  It's a no fail pretty way to store just about anything!

{source}

How adorable is that mint tin?  It is perfect for corralling business cards or other little trinkets you may want to carry along in your purse!

{source}
More creative craft storage, only this one is tiered and can be placed center of a table!  Simple cake pans paired with candle sticks and wow, versatile storage that can go from crafts to cutlery!

{source}

Maybe you don't have a cake pan but a spare baking sheet instead?  A little fabric and the tray goes from dollar store to high end design!

{source}

Any mom knows that babies come with baby wipes.  Lots of tubs of baby wipes.  Those tubs can make fantastic storage {I like to use them in the laundry room for dryer sheets}, so why not dress them up with some pretty vinyl or decorative paper or even fabric?

{source}

This seriously has to be one of the most fantastic ideas I have ever seen.  You will never guess what that adorable cell phone holder was made from.  Baby lotion.  I know, take a minute to wrap your brain around that super smart idea!

{source}

Wooden magazine files are dressed up when paired with pretty papers and metal label embellishments!  Simply sweet!

{source}
Pill cases don't need to just hold our daily vitamins.  They also make perfect scrapbook embellishment storage!

{source}

Jars are one of my favorite storage essentials.  They can become magnetic and be paired with adorable labels to create storage in the bathroom, kitchen, garage or craft space!  So much versatility and they last a lifetime so it's always a win win investment!

{source}

Talk about unexpected uses for things.  Straw holders for spools of ribbon?  Never would have thought of it but it works perfectly!

I have always been a fan of covering soup cans and kleenex boxes to create pretty and free DIY storage.  Sometimes it's easy to forget how many things we have right at our fingertips!  With a little creative thinking and minor crafting abilities, we can have gorgeous storage just by shopping our homes!

What innocent household objects have you attacked with fabric and pretty paper lately?  Who is motivated now to scour your home and re-purpose something into fabulous storage? Me Me Me!
